The terminally ill Béla Bartók experienced his voluntary exile in the USA like an uprooted, slowly withering plant – until the conductor Serge Koussewitzky was able to awaken the composer’s spirits again in 1943 with a commission for the Boston Symphony Orchestra: Bartók’s “Concerto for Orchestra” was to be become his most popular composition, a showpiece for all groups of instruments, for woodwind and brass, strings and percussion instruments and a brilliant staging of orchestral colors and moods! The conductor is Jun Märkl, who feels very closely connected to both the orchestra and this masterpiece.
