Gustav Mahler constantly revised his first symphony until shortly before his death. The first performance was a catastrophic failure and according to Mahler's own statement, even the last performance in New York "rather failed here". Today, his symphonic debut is one of the composer's most-performed pieces and holds a place of honor in the orchestral repertoire - as a masterpiece in which passion, a sense of mission and the highest level of instrumentation combine to create an intense artistic sensory experience for the audience. The Tonkunstler Orchestra recorded Mahler's "First" with the American conductor Robert Trevino in exclusive film aesthetics.
