Hardly any other orchestral piece stimulates the imagination as directly as Nikolai Rimski-Korsakow's musical tales from "Arabian Nights". Concerto for violin? Symphonic poem? Suite? «Sheherazade», created in the summer of 1888, is a bit of everything or, even better: all in one! The four movements bear names such as "The Sea and Sinbad's Ship" and "Celebration in Baghdad", the musical borrowings come from Persia, India and the Caucasus. Fabio Luisi could be won as conductor for the moderated concert format with Albert Hosp. The concert film is conducted by Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, who has a close personal relationship with «Sheherazade» and therefore chose this composition to conduct his first film with a large symphony orchestra.
