It sounds as “From the New World” when the Taiwanese-American conductor Mei-Ann Chen, who has lived in the USA since 1989, stands at the podium of the Tonkunstler-Orchestra – and especially with Antonín Dvořák’s symphony no.9: an orchestral work of the highest perfection , dearly loved by audiences since its premiere in 1893. The Largo, with the plaintive cor anglais solo, is one of the most poignant slow symphonic movements in the Romantic repertoire. Samuel Barber was also a master of reveling melody. Tobias Feldmann made his first appearance at the Tonkunstler with the enchanting violin concerto, which is linked to the tonal language of late Romanticism.
